Andreichenko: Uzbekistan is a key partner for Belarus in Central Asia

Uzbekistan is a key partner for Belarus in Central Asia, and Belarus is interested in developing relations in all areas, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with a parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, BelTA has learned.

“Uzbekistan is a key partner for us in Central Asia, and we are interested in promoting cooperation with this country in all areas. Our relations have been developing consistently since the two countries established diplomatic relations 30 years ago. Yet, the relations experienced their ups and downs. However, the most important thing is that today we have no unresolved issues. Of course, this is due to the efforts of the presidents of our countries,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

According to him, the bilateral trade has been consistently growing. “Nevertheless, in no case should we sideline interpersonal contacts, first of all, contacts between young people. Indeed, we are living in a difficult time. Exchanges between school and university students, academic partnerships are important. So is cooperation in public health, culture, sports. Contacts in these areas should be expanded. These are the stepping stones towards closer cooperation in other areas. We need to protect the hearts and minds of our young people from falsehoods and alien ideology. A lot is being done in Belarus in this field. We must challenge the falsifications on the part of the Westerners. We need to work more actively in this direction in our international organizations,” the speaker noted.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan is on an official visit to Belarus at the invitation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. The first Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum is taking place during the visit. Breakout sessions were held 5 September. The highlight of the business forum on 6 September will be a plenary session “Women entrepreneurs - the potential for developing business contacts between Belarus and Uzbekistan”.

The forum was organized by the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
