France beat Belarus in six-goal thriller in 2014 World Cup qualification

France mounted a second-half turnaround to celebrate a 4-2 victory in the 2014 World Cup qualifying game against Belarus held at Gomel’s Tsentralnyi stadium on 10 September. The match was officiated by Italy’s Daniele Orsato.
After the game Georgy Kondratyev noted that his side had quite a good game but lost because of ridiculous mistakes in defense in the second half. He also stressed that captain Sergei Veremko did not have the best of games. The keeper did not do well in other qualifying games, either. In the other qualifying Group I game Finland snatched a narrow 1-0 away victory over Georgia, Roman Eremenko scoring from a penalty in the 74th minute. The leaders of the section, Spain, did not play a fixture that evening and instead travelled to Geneva where they met with Chile in a friendly match which ended 2-2.
Belarus are only one fixture left to play in the qualifying campaign. On 10 October they will face Spain away. The Group I standings are as follows: Spain 14 points, France 14, Finland 9, Georgia 5, Belarus 4.
Winners of the nine qualifying groups enter the 2014 World Cup directly while eight second-placed teams will qualify for the playoff round which consists of two return matches scheduled for 15 and 19 November 2013.
