MP: CSTO is important part of security system in Europe and Eurasia

Members of the House of Representatives took part in a web-based coordination meeting of the heads of the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO member states to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on 24 June, BelTA has learned.

“We have established this international organization primarily for the purpose of collective security. But within its framework we also coordinate foreign policy initiatives. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an important part of the security system not only in Europe but also in Eurasia as a whole. The CSTO, SCO, NATO, the UN and the OSCE are designed to enhance the transparency of the positions of all countries and contribute to the resolution of local conflicts that arise around the perimeter of our countries,” said Andrei Savinykh, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

He noted that the OSCE session is due next month. "We will attend, speak from the concerted positions, make statements, vote on specific decisions and influence the content of the documents to be adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The coordination meeting is aimed at developing common approaches and agreeing on our common actions not only on security issues, but also a number of others that are of importance to our countries. They include countering interference in the internal affairs of our states, organizing and coordinating the activities of our representatives in election observation throughout the region, a number of other issues related to the effective functioning of our organizations,” Andrei Savinykh noted.
