The trade between Belarus and Germany has been gaining momentum. In 2012 it reached a record high of $4.5 billion. The two countries are set to expand the bilateral trade by another 15% this year.
According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Germany Andrei Giro, the two countries have been implementing a number of joint projects:
“One of the projects concerns the construction of the yeast plant in the town of Slutsk, Belarus. It’s going to be a joint venture. The Belarusian partner is Slutsk sugar factory. There is a German company ready to built here a plant exactly the same as in Germany which provides half of the domestic market with its products.
If the project is a success, the Belarusian demand for bakery yeast will be satisfied. Moreover half of the products will be exported. Thus it will contribute to export potential, and import substitution of Belarus.
