CIS observation mission begins monitoring presidential election in Tajikistan

 

 

 

At the invitation of the Republic of Tajikistan, the CIS sent an observation mission for the presidential election in Tajikistan. The mission began monitoring the election campaign on 21 September, BelTA learned from the CIS mission headquarters. As part of the monitoring of the presidential election, the CIS long-term observers met with Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Tajikistan. Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda spoke in detail about the election campaign, the work of election commissions at all levels. He noted that more than 20 recommendations, manuals and brochures have been drawn up for the participants of the electoral process. Experts have been trained to help members of precinct election commissions. Work to raise awareness of the electoral legislation is carried out among different categories of the population, he noted.

 

In turn, the CIS observers informed the CEC head about the principles of the mission and its work. It was stressed that in is work the mission is guided by the CIS documents regulating international election monitoring. The CIS observers proceed from the fact that elections are an internal matter of a state, and that the mission's task is to assist election organizers in conducting an election campaign in accordance with national legislation.

 

The presidential election in Tajikistan is scheduled for 11 October.
