Latvia invites Belarus to build transport and logistics facilities in Latvian ports. The matter has been discussed at the meeting of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Latvia Alexander Gerasimenko with Minister for Transport of Latvia Anrijs Matiss and Vice Mayor of Riga, Chairman of the Board of the Freeport of Riga Andris Ameriks.
The Belarusian ambassador took part in the 16th international conference TransBaltika 2013 in Riga. Taking part in the conference were transport and customs authorities, representatives of transport and logistics companies and specialized analytical centers from Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden and Estonia.
The participants of the conference discussed ways to boost the transit potential of the Baltic Transport Cluster, including joint projects in logistics run with the Customs Union member states. The speakers pointed to the importance of the Belarus-Latvia transit route. They suggested that Belarus transship more export cargo via Latvian ports. The participants of the conference drew attention to the significant role of the Zubr train in boosting railway cargo transportation between the ports of the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.
