The State Flag Square in Minsk is destined to become the center of independence of the Belarusian state. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the ceremony to start the construction of the residential estate Magister. The residential estate will be built for scientific and artistic intelligentsia.Speaking about the existing state symbols – the coat of arms and the flag – the President reminded that citizens of Belarus chose these symbols via a referendum. “You remember that when I became the president, a white-red-white standard was attached to my car although I prefer the present symbols,” said Alexander Lukashenko.“The nation made the choice, therefore these symbols are the soul of the nation for me. Over there [near the State Flag Square] we are opening an entire complex including the Independence Palace, an exhibition center (we’ve put it into shape). This complex was envisaged as the final major point in arguments about our independence,” said the President.
