Belarusian manufacturers should focus on the production of goods with a high added value, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich told reporters while visiting Belaruskali.
So far Belarusian companies export a lot of semi-finished products, especially agricultural enterprises. For example, the Belovezhsky agricultural company exports 90% of pork in half carcass to Russia, although it would be more profitable to process pork and sell finished products.
“We need to switch from trade in raw materials and semi-finished goods to trade in goods with a high added value. This way we will enhance the efficiency of the domestic economy,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
In his words, the government is partially to blame for the issue because it did not pay due attention to it in the previous years. However, from now on the government will set tougher tasks. He referred to Belaruskali that is completing the construction of facilities that will produce 240,000 tonnes of NPK fertilizers. The company will use non-waste technologies, thus improving the useful properties of fertilizers.
