The government of Belarus has instructed the Healthcare Ministry to step up efforts to attract foreign investors into the Belarusian pharmaceutical industry. This instruction was given at a session of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers of Belarus led by Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The government discussed ways to raise foreign direct investments into the pharmaceutical industry of Belarus and to increase the share of Belarus-made medicines on the domestic market.
In January-September 2012 some $9.5 million in FDI on the net basis was injected in the industry. The Healthcare Ministry was instructed to apply more efforts to bring world’s leading pharmaceutical companies to Belarus, diversify sales markets and expand the range of pharmaceutical exports. The Healthcare Ministry was also instructed to fulfill the projects stipulated by the pharmaceutical industry upgrade program set to run in 2012-2015.
Twenty-six companies are engaged in pharmaceutical production in Belarus. In January-September 2012 Belarus-made drugs accounted for 36.4% of the domestic market in money terms. The figure is expected to increase up to 50% by 2015.
