The Council of the Republic approved the draft law “On accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks (STLT)”.

        The accession to the STLT is necessary for Belarus to honor its commitments under the SES agreement on the common principles of regulation in the field of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.
        Russia and Kazakhstan, Belarus’ partners in the Customs Union, have already joined the Singapore Treaty, said Mr Vladimir Senko, the chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs and national security of the Council of the Republic. “The accession of Belarus to the treaty will confirm our readiness to follow generally accepted standards in the area of intellectual property protection and will simplify the procedure of filing applications for trademark registration,” he said.
      The members of the Council of the Republic also ratified the agreement between Belarus and the United Nations on measures to expedite the import, export and transit of emergency relief aid, and the intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Venezuela on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic, official and service passports.
