        The majority of Belarusians support the decision to construct a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Belarus, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told a press conference for Russian regional mass media.
The main reason in favor of the project was the fact that Belarus is already surrounded by nuclear power plants, with the bulk of them commissioned in the Soviet times. We already have this fear, it is around us. There is no need to be afraid of one more.
       It will be the most advanced plant. We need it. It means cheap electricity and being less dependent on natural gas.
      We took this decision, no matter how difficult it was. Probably, we had no choice. Now the vast majority of the population supports this project.
