Belarus does not recognize mandate of UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights

The Republic of Belarus does not recognize the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights. This is nothing more but a political project of the West, which has nothing to do with human rights, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told media.

According to the Ministry, the only mechanism universally applicable to all states members of the United Nations for the evaluation of the human rights record is the Universal Periodic Review of the UN Human Rights Council. Belarus successfully passed such a review in 2010 and is taking measures to implement its recommendations. In this regard the national government bodies actively cooperate with the civil society and the organizations and agencies of the UN system in Belarus.
