Agriculture minister: Belarusian soy is as good as imported one

Belarusian soybeans are not inferior to imports in terms of protein content, Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Linevich told the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

According to him, global warming and, in general, an increase in temperatures have had an impact on agriculture. “Global warming prompts us to give priority to heat-loving crops. What are they? Corn, soybeans, sunflower. Many institutes, including the Polesie Institute of Plant Growing and the Grodno Institute of Plant Growing, are introducing new varieties of corn and legumes. No one would have thought earlier that soybeans could be grown in Belarus. Today, a number of farms are already doing it, and quite successfully. Our soy is not inferior to imported one in terms of protein content,” Anatoly Linevich remarked.

“Livestock farming is the leading branch of agriculture in our country. The crop production industry is designed to meet the needs of livestock farming. We need to be focused on results, profitability margins, and profits,” the minister added.
