Belarus' FM: Political will is needed to end conflict in Middle East

Belarus and Türkiye call for an immediate end to the bloodshed in the Middle East, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik told the ONT TV channel, BelTA reports.

Last week Ankara hosted the meeting of the Belarus-Türkiye intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and talks between the ministers of the two countries. Sergei Aleinik was asked whether Belarus and Türkiye are on the same page regarding the conflict in the Middle East. “We stand for an immediate end to the bloodshed. We are seriously concerned about the number of deaths among the civilian population, especially women and children,” said Sergei Aleinik.

“We fully acknowledge that the Middle East conflict has been going on for almost 76 years. You know very well that on 29 November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 that envisaged the creation of two states for two peoples. Unfortunately, this resolution was never implemented. Therefore, today we proceed from the fact that there is an international legal basis for resolving this conflict. But everything depends on political will,” the minister emphasized.
