Iran's Deputy FM: Events in the Middle East are a human catastrophe

Events in the Middle East are a human catastrophe, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - President of the Institute for Political and International Studies at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Hassan Shaykh al-Islami told reporters on the sidelines of the international conference on Eurasian security in Minsk on 26 October, BelTA reports.

“What is unfolding now in the Middle East is a human catastrophe. It is absolutely unconscionable. The international community should take action to prevent an even greater catastrophe,” he said.

According to Muhammad Hassan Shaykh al-Islami, this crisis should not be allowed to escalate and spill over into other countries of the region. “We are now making every effort to prevent this from happening. But no one can guarantee that the crisis will not get worse. Iran and a number of other parties in the region are doing everything they can to keep the situation under control, but no one can give guarantees,” the deputy foreign minister said.

He reiterated that international organizations, especially the UN, should play their role in this situation.
