Belarusian farmers harvested half of the areas under grain and leguminous crops, we learned from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
The average grain yield in Belarus is 33.5 centers per hectare. Grodno Oblast has the biggest yield of 42.3 centners per hectare. Mogilev Oblast is second and is followed by Minsk Oblast.
Yet, the grain yield continues to increase, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said. "At the beginning of the harvesting campaign the yield per hectare was about 29 centners of grain. This was due to the fact that farmers harvested the worst plots first thing. Today we have the yield of more than 33 centners per hectare and expect it to rise further. Maybe not as much as last year, but it increases almost every day,” said the ministry.
This year the harvest is expected at the level of last year despite the difficult winter. As the head of state was reported, in 2013 Belarus looks to crop more than 9 million tonnes of grain, corn included.
