Yuri Shevtsov: Presidential address was calm in relation to the West

The recent speech made by the Belarus President was calm in relation to the West. The opinion was voiced by Director of the Center for European Integration Studies Yuri Shevtsov as he commented on the Belarus President’s address to the nation and the parliament. “By the coloring we see its very calm attitude towards the West… He mentioned that neither the European Union nor the USA are going to impede Belarus’ accession to the WTO out of political considerations. It can be considered as a kind of a small sensation,” said Yuri Shevtsov. The expert attributed it to a warming up in relations with the West and preparations for the Eastern Partnership Initiative summit that will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania in November.
Yuri Shevtsov reminded about the recent visit of Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich to Lithuania. “Over there good agreements on one of the terminals of the Klaipeda port were signed. Very promising statements for Belarus are voiced,” said the expert.
