Lukashenko’s achievements in handling negotiations praised by world community

         The Normandy Four talks were a success in Minsk, which confirms once again Belarus’ important role in maintaining regional stability and peace, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming said in an interview to STV TV channel. In his words, China hails and supports close mediation of the corresponding sides in removing tension in east Ukraine and resolving the crisis through political talks. At the same time Italy’s Ambassador to Belarus Stefano Bianchi stressed that Minsk had played a significant role by bringing important guests to the negotiating table and in fact became a capital of addressing issues. Achievements of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in handling negotiations have been praised by the world community, MP of the European Parliament of the 7th convocation (Latvia) Alexander Mirsky said in an interview to Belarus One TV channel.
      Political analyst Yuri Shevtsov believes that the Normandy Four summit in Minsk, as well as meeting of the contact group on Ukraine, will help promote Belarus’ international authority:

       “From a diplomatic point of view, those were very complicated negotiations, unprecedented in their difficulty. It is good that a positive result was eventually secured, because it was not obvious. An agreement was signed at the level of the heads of key states involved, and this already proves that the talks were a success.
      Now, as far as the rest is concerned, I’d be very cautious in any expectations of an easy implementation of the agreement. For instance, it lacks a provision on peace-keeping forces that would separate the conflicting parties. And it’s not the only weak point. The weakest one, as mentioned by President Putin, is the fate of Debaltseve. It is difficult to see how the situation there could be settled.
In other words, it’s good to see an agreement being reached, but, again, one would be well-advised to exhibit caution in expecting a problem-free implementation.”
