In H1 2013 the gold reserves of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus rose by 500kg to 33.8 tonnes as of 1 July 2013. The figures have been published on the official website of the country’s central bank.
According to the National Bank, the gold reserves were increased through the purchasing of precious metals from the Finance Ministry, and through the processing of sub-standard bullions into the bank standard bullions, which were credited to metal accounts. The National Bank has plans to increase the gold reserves, despite the downtrend on the world gold market. Falling prices for gold is a temporary trend, experts say.
In 2012 the gold reserves of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus went up 1.6 tonnes. In 2011 the reserves gained 400kg.
The gold reserves of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus are calculated in metric tonnes and comprise gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.
