The program of the festival featured 60 events that were held on 13 venues in Vitebsk. Taking part in the forum were representatives of 31 countries worldwide. Attending the opening ceremony was Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. The festival has been held under his auspices since 1996. Welcoming addresses were sent by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko bestowed the award “Through Art to Peace and Mutual Understanding” on People’s Artist of the USSR Edita Piekha.
This year the festival marked the 25th anniversary of the Summer Amphitheater. This concert hall broke the attendance record two times during the festival. Three full house concerts were held here on 13 July. Those were a concert of Italian singers “Hello From San Remo”, a concert of the Ruki Vverkh band (Russia) and the first day of the international song contest Vitebsk 2013.
Taking part in the Junior Song Contest were young hopefuls from 18 countries, while the adult International Song Contest gathered participants from 21 countries.
