Agricultural producers of Mogilev Oblast should address the efficiency issue in cattle breeding, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich has said during his working trip to Mogilev Oblast. While touring the Bel agricultural company Mikhail Myasnikovich discussed fodder harvesting and renovation of dairy farms in the region.
According to the Prime Minister, Mogilev Oblast looks pretty good compared to other regions in terms of several quantity indicators, however, labor efficiency in Mogilev Oblast leaves much to be desired. For example, milk yield at modern dairy farms exceeds the regional average only by 7.5%. “If the growth remains as slow as it is now, the investments we put into the upgrade of the cattle breeding industry will never pay back. Therefore, agricultural producers of Mogilev Oblast should come to grips with the issues related to fodder harvesting, animal nutrition and selective breeding,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
The Belarusian head of government voiced concerns over the timely commissioning of 125 dairy farms that are under construction in the region now. “This year is a decisive year for agricultural producers. Last year the instructions of the head of state related to the upgrade of dairy farms were not fulfilled. The situation should not repeat this year. Not only should we commission all the planned facilities, we should also bring highly productive animals there,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
