Belarusian Max Mirnyi has been honored with Tennis Europe Award, the prestigious award given to outstanding athletes in recognition of their significant contribution to the development and popularization of tennis not only in their own country but also throughout Europe.
According to the official website of the Belarusian Tennis Federation, this decision was taken at the 39th Annual General Meeting of Tennis Europe. The legendary Belarusian tennis player Max Mirnyi rightfully became the winner of this prestigious award. The name of Max Mirnyi is associated with the brightest moments in the history of the Belarusian tennis that are filled up with special pride for the fantastic victories not only on ATP tour but in Davis Cup matches.
He holds 45 ATP doubles titles, including 9 Grand Slam doubles titles. One more Belarusian player was honored at the AGM conference. Irina Shymanovich of Belarus finished the 2012 season being No. 1 among girls under 16. Irina will get the gold medal and a special diploma in Minsk as soon as she returns home from an international tournament in Turkey.
