Nechayev: Recycling of food production waste is relevant for Union State

Recycling of food production waste is a topical issue in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Director of the Department for Science and Technology Policy and Education of the Agriculture Ministry of the Russian Federation Vasily Nechayev said commenting on the Union State program “Enhancing efficiency of food production by means of waste recycling using latest technologies and equipment”.
“Every year Russia spends $42 billion to import foodstuffs. We should find a way to cheapen domestic food production. Rational use of waste products is the best way to cut costs. Joint research in this field is of great importance for the Union State economy not only because we will use cheaper domestic equipment, but also because we will get more opportunities to complement each other’s food markets,” Vasily Nechayev said.
The Union State program “Enhancing efficiency of food production by means of waste recycling using latest technologies and equipment” was adopted in April 2010. The program was ordered by the Agriculture Ministry of the Russian Federation and the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus. The program provided for developing environmentally friendly and resource-saving technologies and equipment for a variety of industries. Over two years Belarusian scientists introduced eight pilot production operations at Belarusian processing companies.
