Head coach of Belarus’ national ice hockey team Andrei Skabelka has revealed the list of players who will head to Vojens, Denmark, to compete for the place in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
The official website of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association reads that 23 hockey players have been called up to the Belarus squad.
In Vojens Belarus (13th place in the IIHF world ranking) will play three group F round robins on 7, 8 and 10 February against Slovenia (18), Ukraine (20) and Denmark (12).
Other 2014 Olympic qualifying groups are as follows: Group D (venue: Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany): Germany (10), Austria (15), Italy (16), the Netherlands (24); Group E (venue: Riga, Latvia): Latvia (11), France (14), Kazakhstan (17), the U.K. (21).
Top teams in each of the three groups advance to the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. As many as nine best ice hockey teams, according to the IIHF world ranking, have automatically qualified for the 2014 Olympics: Russia, Finland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Canada, Slovakia, the U.S., Norway and Switzerland.
