Slave traders stay away from Belarus

For the sake of personal safety slave traders try to receive their “live cargo” in the country of destination without having to travel to Belarus, BelTA quotes Sergei Koltun, Deputy Chief of the Central Office for Drugs Control and Slave Trade Counteraction of the Belarusian Interior Ministry. “In 2014 law enforcement efforts allowed us to generally control and adequately influence the crime situation as far as the counteraction of slave trade is concerned. We managed to preserve and reinforce positive trends in the total number of detected crimes and the number of grave crimes,” said Sergei Koltun.
The officer remarked that Belarus is still primarily a country of origin of slaves. In 2014 as many as 15 channels used to export people to four countries for the sake of exploitation were suppressed. As many as 24 crimes involving the export or attempts to export 43 Belarusian citizens for the sake of exploitation were detected.
