One of the most revered Christian Orthodox shrines - the icon with the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh - arrived in Minsk. Thousands of believers led by the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Pavel, greeted it at Holy Spirit Cathedral. Thousands of Belarusian believers came to worship the icon and relics of St. Sergius. The shrine came to Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk from the spiritual homeland of St. Sergius of Radonezh - straight from Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius.
About seven hundred churches and chapels were named after Sergius of Radonezh. His holy image is in every church iconostasis. He is glorified as the father of Russian monasticism - his pupils founded more than a hundred monasteries. St. Sergius of Radonezh is a miracle worker, for that reason believers from different parts of Belarus brought here their requests and prayers.
The shrine will stay in the capital till the 25th of July. After that it will go to Vitebsk and Polotsk. Spiritual Voyage of the shrine around Belarus is connected with the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
