New exposition Museum of War, Territory of Peace opens at Brest Fortress Hero Memorial

The new exposition called Museum of War, Territory of Peace opened at the Brest Fortress Hero Memorial on 22 June, BelTA reports. The ceremony was held after the commemorative meeting to honor the Nationwide Remembrance Day for the victims of the Great Patriotic War. A symbolic red ribbon was cut by Chairman of the Brest region Executive Committee Konstantin Sumar, Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Vitaly Markelov.

The exposition features more than 2,000 items in eight halls. They are arranged in chronological order and by their names the visitors can trace the tragic fate of the defenders of the fortress. Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov said that the new exposition represents another step towards learning more about our not-so-distant past. He noted that over the years the museum has accumulated a lot of exhibits and lacked the exhibition space to showcase them all.
