Alexandra Sasnovich of Belarus out of Wimbledon qualifying round

World No. 138 Alexandra Sasnovich of Belarus suffered a 4-6, 6-7 (2-7) defeat from Madison Brengle of the United States (151) at the Wimbledon qualifying round two on 18 June. In her opener on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club the Belarusian took a confident win against Russia’s Ksenia Pervak (140). In the men’s singles Vladimir Ignatik of Belarus (210) also completed his performance falling 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 to Spain’s Adrian Menendez-Maceiras (172) in the second qualifying round. In the opener the Belarusian beat Joao Souza of Brazil (134) in two straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

World No.8 Belarusian Victoria Azarenka in her first match fell to Italy’s Camila Giorgi (42) 6-4, 3-6, 5-7. Azarenka came back from 4-2 down to win the first set. The Italian embarked on a powerful start of the second set, taking five games in row. Victoria Azarenka pulled herself together and won three games in response, but Camila Giorgi topped 6-3. In a tense final set with a bunch of mistakes from both the sides the Italian went off victorious 5-7. The match lasted for almost three hours. Despite the defeat, Victoria Azarenka showed her combative instinct, which gives hope for her successful performance at the Wimbledon that kicks off on 23 June.
