How Belarusians got caught in epicenter of Myanmar’s earthquake

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told the Vremya Pervogo [Time of the First] project on the First New TV channel how the Belarusian military delegation got caught in the epicenter of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, BelTA has learned.

It was a true miracle that the Belarusian Defense Ministry delegation, which was on an official visit to Myanmar, were not injured during the strongest earthquake, which happens once in a hundred years.

“Everyone showed restraint, calmness. No one gave in to panic. Of course, it was a bit scary when you are in a collapsing building. Knowing that the head of state decided to provide assistance by the ZUBR special purpose detachment of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, an immediate decision was taken to use our airplanes for the transfer,” said Viktor Khrenin.

According to the defense minister, the first part of the detachment had already been delivered, after which the pilots returned to Belarus for the second part. The military crews will also deliver humanitarian aid.

Now our rescuers are working in Myanmar in extreme conditions. Belarusian Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky assured that the humanitarian cargo would be sent to Myanmar soon to help those affected by the earthquake. “This is a very difficult task, which is aggravated by the remoteness of the region, as well as weather conditions,” Vadim Sinyavsky added.
