Sabalenka advances to US Open second round

Belarusian tennis players have made a successful start at the ongoing US Open in New York, BelTA has learned.

Belarus’ World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Australian world number 203 Priscilla Hon in the opener. The Belarusian will face Italy's world number 76 Lucia Bronzetti in the second round. In the 2023 US Open final Aryna Sabalenka lost to Coco Gauff of the United States.

The total prize money pool for 2024 stands at $75,000,000, with winners in the men’s and women’s events earning $3.6 million each.
