Mir Castle to host Summer Music Academy

The Music Summer Academy “Dresden - Music at the Court of Augustus of Saxony” is held in the Mir Castle. The event brings together about 40 participants from Belarus, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine and Poland. “The music of the early 18th century is in perfect harmony with Mir Castle and exhibits from its museum collections. All of this will help the guests and musicians from different countries fully enjoy the atmosphere of the long bygone era. I would like to note that some musical pieces will be performed on authentic instruments created nearly three centuries ago,” said Olga Popko, director the Mir Castle museum.
The focus of the academy will be on Baroque music, which first originated during the golden days of the Dresden Court of Augustus of Saxony whose court chapel comprised the most virtuosic and famous musicians of the era. “We are happy that our project will not only help promote an exchange of experience between professional musicians from various countries, but also draw the attention of baroque music lovers. The castle will stay open to everyone during the academy,” manager of the project, coordinator of the department of cultural programs of the Goethe Institute in Minsk Igor Kuksin said. Applications for the academy are accepted from both students and professional musicians playing flute, violin, viol, lute, clavecin, cello and other musical instruments.
