Chairman of the Council of the Republic met with Ambassador of Cuba

        Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Belarus Alfredo Nieves Portuondo in connection with the expiry of his diplomatic mission in the country. According to Anatoly Rubinov: Cuba is close to Belarus in spirit: “Cuba has always been a symbol of aspiration to freedom and independence for us.” The Belarusian official stressed that Cuba’s such stance, despite the USA’s economic embargo, deserves respect. In his words, the two countries have been enjoying good contacts in various areas since the Soviet times. Independent Belarus boasts a 21-year-old history of the diplomatic relations with the Cuban state. “We have no disagreements both in the bilateral relations and on the international arena,” the Speaker said. Speaking with the Cuban diplomat, Anatoly Rubinov recalled the official visit of the Belarusian delegation led by the President to Cuba last year. “The parties signed a number of important agreements. The main thing is that a new impetus was added to the development of out relations,” he said.
