More Chinese electric locomotives for Belarus

One-section electric locomotives will be supplied by China to Belarus within 21 months.
The Belarusian railway operator will buy another batch of Chinese electric locomotives in line with the contracts signed with China Machinery and Electric Equipment Import and Export Company during the official visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Beijing. The Belarusian Railways delegation was led by the company’s head Vladimir Morozov.
The contracts worth $117 million provide for buying 18 one-section electric locomotives and also envisage the delivery of spare parts and materials for the maintenance of the new rolling stock. The entire batch of electric locomotives will be made by Datong Locomotive Factory.
The locomotives yet to be bought will be 80% compliant with the two-section China-made electric locomotives already bought by the Belarusian railway operator.
Deputy Head of Belarusian Railways Vladimir Balakhonov underlined that the use of one-section locomotives is a global practice. “The locomotives we are buying can be coupled together. If necessary, several locomotives can be merged to create one powerful electric locomotive,” he explained.
Taking into account the construction of the nuclear power plant in Belarus, the transition to electric power is the work that positively influences the economy of Belarusian Railways and the national economy.
