Sergei Loznitsa's In the Fog movie got a theatrical release in the United States this weekend, according to director general of the Belarusfilm national studio Oleg Silvanovich.
“For two days the rating of the movie totaled 3.5 out of 5, which we see as a good result. I must say that for the Belarusian movie to get to America is a colossal cultural achievement,” Oleg Silvanovich said.
In the Fog is currently showing in three theaters in Manhattan. The movie got a lot of attention from the audience and the press. For example, the New York Times did a great review on the psychological drama by the Belarusian director.
The powerful art project was directed by Sergei Loznitsa, who called the film a drama about a man trying to make a moral choice in immoral circumstances. It is 1942 and Belarus is under German occupation. Sushenya, an innocent rail worker, is arrested with a band of saboteurs when a train is derailed not far from his village. Captured by the partisans, he is led through the forest where they are ambushed. Soon he finds himself one-on-one with his wounded enemy.
