The International Law Competition Youth for Peace draws attention to the issues of the international humanitarian law, reads a welcoming message of Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei to the participants of the 7th International Law Competition Youth for Peace that is taking place in Minsk.
“Peace-building, supremacy of law in international relations, protection of victims of military conflicts and ways to ensure observation and implementation of the international humanitarian law are among the priorities of our work in the United Nations, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, other international organizations,” the message reads.
The first International Law Competition Youth for Peace was held in 2006. A new theme is chosen for the contest every year. This year participants of the competition will be asked to evaluate legitimacy of using arms, including nuclear arms, if an asteroid falls on the Earth. The participants will be asked to suggest legitimate solutions real time. The contest is traditionally held as part of the UN Academic Impact initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in actively supporting ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, literacy, sustainability and conflict resolution.
