Belarus and Latvia intend to advance the bilateral relations to a new higher level. The relevant statement was made after negotiations between the Belarusian and Latvian foreign ministers in Vitebsk.
According to Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, the sides discussed the entire range of cooperation matters, including interaction in trade, economic, political, and humanitarian spheres, and results of the practical implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on small border traffic. “For all these matters we have come up with mutually acceptable solutions and have agreed on further actions,” he said. “Our negotiations were constructive and fruitful. We believe that in the near future relevant instructions will be issued to other ministries and agencies to work on the specific projects that we have agreed on and that will allow advancing our cooperation to a higher level,” said the Belarusian Foreign Minister. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics confirmed that there are great prospects particularly in Belarus-Latvia trade and economic cooperation. He said that apart from that the negotiations had touched upon the need to address some issues to enhance the mutual trust, in particular, in defense matters. “Everything that can build up trust between our countries should be done,” stressed the Latvian Foreign Minister.
