Number of hostels in Minsk might double in two years

The number of hostels in Minsk might increase two times at the minimum over two years, Head of the Consumer Services and Accommodation Directorate of the Minsk City Hall Andrei Novikov told reporters.
At present Minsk has eight hostels that can accommodate a total of 400 people. Hostels are much cheaper than hotels. They are very popular in Europe, because they allow travelers to save money on accommodation. Hostels usually offer a bed without amenities in a room. One room can have up to 12-20 beds.
The first hostels opened in Minsk in 2011. “Such economy-class mini-hotels are doing well without assistance from the government. It means that this type of accommodation is pretty popular. We expect the number of hostels to increase two times at the minimum over the next year or two,” Andrei Novikov said.
Minsk-based companies are also building four budget oriented hotels.
