Belarusian-Cuban relations affected by U.S. embargo

If it were not for the economic, trade and financial blockade of Cuba by the United States, Cuba would buy more Belarusian goods, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Belarus Alfredo Nieves Portuondo told a press conference.

“Over the past six months, the trade between Belarus and Cuba has doubled. Our governments have a considerable interest in the development of economic ties. If it were not for the economic, trade and financial blockade of Cuba by the United States, our country would purchase more Belarusian goods,” the Cuban diplomat said.

He also noted that the Belarusian-Cuban relations are affected by the hostile United States embargo. “However, despite the embargo, we have succeeded in the development of medicine, biotech industry. These are two areas where we have been strengthening the cooperation with Belarus,” Mr Alfredo Nieves Portuondo said.
