A total of 128 big investment projects worth of more than $3.7 billion are currently underway in the Belarusian capital, Deputy Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Minsk City Hall Denis Yeremenko told media.
66 of them are implemented with the help of foreign investment. The total investment is estimated at $2.7 billion. The most attractive areas are construction of multifunctional centers, hotels, trading centers. Eleven projects worth of $40 million have been completed. Many more will be implemented by the 2014 IIHF World Championship.
In January-August alone, the city raised more than $600 million in foreign direct investment (FDI), which accounts for more than 60% of the total funds raised across the country. “Minsk has already beaten the FDI target ($296 million). Next year the target is likely to be $950 million. About 15-20% of the investment projects are switching over into the active phase of implementation,” said Denis Yeremenko.
