At present restoration works are performed on 350 historical monuments in Belarus

At present restoration works are performed on 350 historical monuments in Belarus, Culture Minister of Belarus Pavel Latushko has said as he awarded winners of the contest Exemplary Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage.
He emphasized that restoration of architectural specimens is a priority avenue of the state policy in culture. The government earmarks considerable resources for the purpose.
At present restoration and repair works are performed as part of the government program Culture of Belarus set to run in 2011-2015. The Council of Ministers adopted the government program Castles of Belarus to be completed by 2018 (some 38 facilities will be restored by that time). The funds are provided in line with the state investment program.
The most important historical and cultural monuments to be restored include the Novogrudok Castle. Among others we can mention the Ruzhany Castle and the Krevo Castle. Pavel Latushko believes that those are the most important projects that need priority restoration.
The minister reminded that the Nesvizh Castle had been recently opened for the public. The official opening of the Mir Castle had been held a bit earlier. These castles are the landmark tourist facilities of our country generating considerable revenues, Pavel Latushko added.
