MP: Due to its potential in agriculture, Belarus can gain a foothold in many markets

The potential of Belarusian agriculture allows our products to gain a foothold in the markets of many countries, Nikolai Buzin, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media of the House of Representatives, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“The head of state pays primary attention to agriculture. This is the basis on which our entire statehood develops, including science, industry and education. The basis is work on the land. In 2024, we earned more than $8 billion in profits from agriculture. The figure is huge, and it is an achievement that our country has never had before,” Nikolai Buzin said.

The head of state tells officials to aim for more, the MP said. “We can achieve more. This is a great figure, but it is already a relic of history. What has been invested in science, in breeding, should bring results, and help solve an even greater task with minimal human resources,” he emphasized.

According to Nikolai Buzin, qualified labor resources allow increasing the agricultural output in Belarus. “Today we have to adapt agriculture to the new realities. We need to move from extensive to intensive agriculture. That means we need to get bigger crops, bigger milk yields with smaller workforce,” the MP said.

In order to solve the issue, it is necessary to develop breeding enterprises and find new markets, he said. “There are food shortages worldwide. In the future, this is the niche that Belarus can occupy for a long period of time. I am talking not only about our neighbors. There are food shortages in practically all regions of the world. Food becomes a measure enabling a certain country join the ranks of states that can provide for themselves,” Nikolai Buzin said.

With a huge potential in agriculture, Belarus can gain a foothold in the markets of many countries, the MP added.
