Belarusian commodity exchange reports increasing sale of amino acids

In January-November 2024 the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange sold 26,700 tonnes of domestically produced amino acids at the export trading sessions, well above 340 tonnes in the same period of 2023, the BUCE press service told BelTA.

L-lysine sulfate and L-lysine monohydrochloride are in the highest demand among importers. These positions accounted for over 80% of export sales in January-November this year.

According to the BUCE press service, the growth of amino acids exports is primarily due to the increasing number of foreign buyers who use the exchange mechanism and to certain changes in the sales policy of the seller - Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation.

The interest of non-resident buyers in Belarusian amino acids is certainly growing,” the press service said. “We can see it in the number of foreign companies regularly participating in export trade sessions. Their number doubled during the year. As a result, the level of competition increased, which had a positive impact on price dynamics. For example, during the last auction the price for some lots ballooned by more than 50%. The strategy of the Belarusian seller also changed. Whereas previously, it put only large lots up for auctions and they could be purchased only by large buyers. Today small lots are available for sale too. Thus, the barrier for small and medium-sized businesses to enter the exchange market was removed, which again had a positive effect on export sales.”

According to the Belarusian legislation, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs are obliged to export amino acids worth €1,000 or more via the BUCE. Registration of over-the-counter transactions with these products is mandatory. At the moment L-lysine sulfate, L-lysine monohydrochloride, L-threonine and L-tryptophan are regularly exported via BUCE. The main buyers of amino acids at the BUCE are residents of Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
