Belarus’ MAZ exports over 60% of vehicle output to Russia

More than 60% of Belarus’ MAZ vehicles are exported to Russia, Deputy Director General of MAZ - Managing Company of BELAVTOMAZ Holding Company - Marketing Director Vladimir Yanushko told the media during the Russian journalists’ visit to the enterprise as part of a one-week press tour, BelTA has learned.

MAZ produces more than 14,000 vehicles a year. The plant’s annual output comprises 10,000 trucks, including about 6,000-6,500 fitted with Belarusian engines. The rest are equipped with Russian ones. “The enterprise exports all kinds of vehicles, including passenger ones. About 62% of the total output is exported to Russia. Truck tractors are in the greatest demand. We work a lot in Russia and develop partner programs. We have 32 Russian partner plants where we supply chassis. They use out chassis to make their products. This turns out to be a Russian-made vehicle, which allows us to participate in subsidy programs in the Russian Federation,” Vladimir Yanushko said.

According to him, the level of localization before the introduction of sanctions on trucks was within 75-80%, and the rest, including engines, gearboxes, other components for certain models, was imported. “We are now working on the production of air conditioners at our plant. Today the level of localization for certain models reaches 96%,” the deputy director general stressed.

More than 30 representatives of about 15 Russian media outlets are taking part in the one-week press tour “25 Years of the Union State of Belarus and Russia”. The journalists have already got familiar with the potential of Gomselmash, Belarusian Steel Works, Rogachev Dairy Canning Plant, Krasny Pischevik, and the Belarusian Research Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology, the country’s leading organization to provide specialized medical aid to the population affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident. On 20 November the program of the tour featured a visit to Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ).
