Belarus-Russia trade up 8.5% since start of year

Belarus-Russia trade has increased by 8.5% since the beginning of the year, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Yerevan, Armenia as part of the Eurasian Economic Forum on 1 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have already added 8.5% in mutual trade in the current year. This came following a robust progress last year. Despite all the challenges we face, these figures show that we have chosen the right course with comprehensive cooperation yielding positive results,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to the prime minister, the key areas of interaction are industrial cooperation, technological sovereignty and import independence. “Our organizations are working on it at all levels. The Industry Ministry is implementing a number of programs, aimed at the rapid replacement of imported components both in ‘hardware’ and software. Close attention is paid to these projects. We are actively involved in this work,” the Belarusian head of government said.

The 3rd Eurasian Economic Forum is taking place in Yerevan, Armenia on 30 September–1 October. The forum is held as part of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting featuring the heads of government of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and observer states. The event is held within the framework of Armenia’s presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union in 2024.
