Opinion: CIS observers assess election processes in objective, unbiased way

We assess the election processes in an objective, unbiased way, CIS long-term observer Yevgeny Klemez told BelTA.

On 5 February the international observer got acquainted with the work of district election commissions in the administrations of the Zheleznodorozhny District and Tsentralny District of Gomel.

"I represent the CIS election observer mission. There is enough work at the moment. This is our 125th mission in the CIS and 12th mission in Belarus. Today we visited three commissions, saw the preparations for the elections, studied visual campaigning materials, the data on candidates and financing. Overall, the work is well organized,” he noted.

According to Yevgeny Klemez, the CIS international observers enjoy well-deserved respect in the CIS member states. "This is due to our fair and unbiased assessment of the election processes. We do not interfere in the voting process. Our task is to observe and then draw up our findings. All information is sent to the CIS office where it is processed and evaluated," he said.

According to the district election commissions, the election campaigning has already kicked off in Belarus. Candidates meet with voters , appear on radio and television. Their bio information is checked. Representatives of election commissions attend workshops and seminars. For example, the recent workshop was attended by representatives of the Department of Internal Affairs and the Emergencies Ministry to further discuss the security measures. "It is important that the election commissions work in a safe environment," the CIS observer noted.

Yevgeny Klemez was also interested in the membership of district election commissions and asked whether the current epidemiological situation affected the election process.

Members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation and the local councils of deputies of the 29th convocation will be elected in Belarus on the single voting day on 25 February 2024.
