Human rights activists from Germany honored with Peace and Human Rights award

Veronika Naidenova, a journalist and head of the Kriegskinder project, and Mark Briel, a human rights activist and participant of the Kriegskinder project, have become winners of the maiden edition of the Peace and Human Rights Award, BelTA has learned.

As BelTA reported earlier, the Emil Czeczko Award has been established by the Emil Czeczko International Charitable Foundation and is presented annually. The cash pool of the award is $18,000. First place is $10,000, second place is $5,000, third place is $3,000. The main criteria include: a significant contribution of the awardee to promoting human rights and their protection in the world, public recognition of the awardee's services to human rights and social importance of the activities.

Veronika Naidenova said that the Kriegskinder project works with children of war. "This is why the project has such a name. We are focused on working with children, because in a few years it will be them who will determine the future of the world. The project organizes summer camps for children of war who are living in Germany," she said.

Speaking about cooperation with Belarus, Veronika Naidenova noted that several photos from the exhibition "The Border Between Life and Death" were included in the exhibition organized by the Kriegskinder project: "Our exhibition featured the photos of children who suffered from the actions of European countries on the border with Belarus. We are going to promote the work of the Emil Czeczko Foundation in the German-speaking space."
