Ambassador: India will not oppose Belarus' accession to SCO, BRICS

India has never been and will not be against Belarus joining SCO and BRICS, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to India Andrei Rzheussky said in an interview with the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“India has never objected and will not object Belarus' accession to SCO and BRICS. Our application to BRICS has been submitted this year. I have discussed this matter with a representative of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. Reviewing the outcomes of this meeting, I can say that no decision has been made yet on BRICS expansion; various mechanisms, approaches and modalities of interaction within BRICS are in the works for countries that have submitted applications. I have been clearly told that India has not opposed and will not oppose the accession of Belarus, on the contrary, if any specific decisions are made, it will definitely support them,” said Andrei Rzheussky.

By the way, India was one of the first countries to approve the memorandum of commitment by the Republic of Belarus to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. “Just a couple of countries have not yet completed internal procedures to approve this memorandum. It is quite possible that next summer we will become full members of SCO,” the ambassador emphasized.
