Minsk and Beijing will start sharing library resources. This is stipulated by the agreement on cooperation between the National Library of Belarus and the Beijing Capital Library. “Exchange between libraries is a top matter. There are plans to organize academic forums, bolster cooperation in library and information matters,” said Deputy Culture Minister Vasily Chernik.
The document also provides for sharing information about the development of new projects and services aimed at satisfying information needs of users as well as visits at the level of top executives of the libraries. There are plans to exhibit proprietary library collections and exchange literature. The agreement between the National Library of Belarus and the Beijing Capital Library will be in effect for three years. The document may be prolonged in the future.
At present the National Library of Belarus cooperates with the world’s 24 largest libraries, including 20 national ones.
