A plenary session of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia took place on 29 September.

Speaking at the event, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that Belarus is committed to mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia and advocates for consistent fulfillment of all obligations.    Today’s summit is important for the Union State as the continuation of the dialogue w3hich I started with the president of the Russian Federation in Sochi in September 2020. This is another important step to the enhancement of good-neighborly relations and development of cooperation between our brotherly nations. The forum of such regional cooperation is rather efficient. In the period of six years the sides signed over 300 agreements to the tune of more than $2 billion. This is a big contribution to the development of the social and economic potential of Belarus and Russia. I am convinced that this year’s summit will be as good as the previous ones. The course of history proves that only together, with joint efforts, we will be able to make significant progress.

At the same time, many goals are still to be achieved. One of the central ones is the creation of equal conditions for Belarusian and Russian businesses. We are ready to discuss all proposals that will strengthen the overall economic security. However, it is important to remember that we will not make any significant progress if we do not consistently fulfill our commitments.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia and Belarus are interested in giving an impetus to the development of regional ties:

(soundbite)

The authorities of Russia and Belarus are interested in adding an impetus to the development of regional ties which are one of the most important components of truly brotherly, friendly and allied relations between Russia and Belarus, the relations that are based upon equality and respect for each other's interests.

Belarus and Russia are not only working to consistently advance the multifaceted bilateral dialogue, but are also purposefully implementing an agreement on the Union State. Our countries are also active within the Eurasian Economic Union, we stand together in building a common defense, addressing the most important challenges and threats of today within the framework of the CSTO.
