Top Lithuanian furniture industry manufacturers – Vakaru Medienos Grupe (VMG) and SBA Concern launched a furniture manufacturing complex in the free economic zone Mogilev. The complex includes the factories to make flake boards, cabinet furniture and veneer VMG Industry and SBA Concern’s factory Mebelain.
The two Lithuanian companies have invested over €95 million in setting up the enterprise. The project represents the largest direct investment by Lithuanian companies in Belarus and one of the largest foreign investments in the manufacturing industry in the entire history of Belarusian business.
It is the first time the multiple international business and finance powers have combined their efforts to build one of Europe’s largest complex of factories to process wood and make furniture, said VMG Chairman of the Board Sigitas Paulauskas. “It is a new page of our entrepreneurship in the history of the economy of Belarus and Lithuania,” said the executive.
The Belarus-made furniture will be shipped to the Swedish concern IKEA and will be exported to the Russian market. The factories VMG Industry and Mebelain have created over 1,000 jobs.
